Malacca Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary

If you are a butterfly lover, or love to get in touch with nature, Malacca Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary is a must visit destination.
Opened to public on 1 February 1991, the Sanctuary is now home to more than 20 species of butterflies. Launched by the Chief Minister of Malacca, the Sanctuary is formerly known only as “The Butterfly Park Malacca” which only houses different species of butterflies. Continuous improvement by the management has led theMalacca Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary to transform itself into one of the most successful sanctuary in Malaysia today.
Beautifully landscaped and occupying jungle site of more than 11 acre in Melaka, the Malacca Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary is now home to a huge variety of animals, from insects to reptiles, and birds to mammals.

Butterfly Aviary

Malacca Butterfly & Reptile Sanctuary is now home to more than 20 species of butterflies, including the Black and White Helen (Papilio nephelus), Malayan Birdwing (Troides) and the Raja Brooke’ Birdwing, named after Sir James Brooke (the King of Sarawak). The rare black and electric-green Raja Brooke’s Birdwing can only be found in Malaysia and Indonesia.
With more than thousands of butterflies and moths flying around, the Butterfly Aviary makes one feels like living in a mystical world. A truly money can’t buy experience for all nature lover.

If you are lucky, you might get a butterfly to land on you.

Koi Garden

Simply laze by the pond and listen to the falling water in the Koi River Valley. Admire the beautiful fishes and refresh yourself in this tropical environment. Also, don’t be surprised to see two leopards in the Koi Garden! Yes. Leopards!

Bird Aviary

The Sanctuary also houses a number of  birds, from the happy chirping of the lovebirds to the more exotic white peacocks, hornbills, owl, peafowls and parrots.


Reptile Aviary

The reptile aviary now exhibits a large collection of reptiles, including crocodiles, alligators, tortoises, lizards, iguana, monitor lizards and more than 20 different species of snakes.

A mangrove snake garden will let you have a close up encounter with the snakes in the Reptile Aviary. How close? This CLOSE. You might want to be careful when you’re in the garden as the management will not be responsible if anything mishap happens to you.

Insect Museum

The insect museum has a collection of more than 400 museum specimens.
On your way out, be sure to check out the For Sale corner if you are a collector or want to bring back an insect specimen for memory.
