If you happen to visit Malacca during the Christmas period, remember to drop by the Portuguese Settlement in Ujong Pasir to enjoy the marvelous Christmas atmosphere.
Every year, during this Christmas period, most of the house gates will be open. You can just walk into the house compound and admire the Christmas lighting and decorations put up by the family. You can also have a friendly chat with the family members as they will be seating around in their house compound, welcoming guests. Don’t forget Merry Christmas wishes!
On Christmas eve, there will be a huge crowd flooding Portuguese Settlement. There will be Christmas countdown and fireworks display to celebrate Christmas.
However, if you missed out on the Christmas eve, you can still visit the Portuguese Settlement for the Christmas decorations because they will usually be up until new year.
Travel Tips
- Parking – There will be insufficient parking space to accommodate the crowd. Hence if you’re late, don’t might park a little further. It’s actually better because you can avoid the jam and be among the first to get back home.
- Expect a little pushing and squeezing here and there. Parents, make sure your children stay close to you at all time.
- Expect a massive jam. Hence if you want to avoid the jam, we would suggest that you park your car a little further away from the settlement.
